WEEE

[ed_hr]

The new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment  (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU entered into force on 13 August 2012 and had to be transposed into national law by 14 February 2014. At that time, the old WEEE Directive (Directive 2002/96/EC) is repealed.

The Directive aims to minimize the impacts of electrical and electronic equipment on the environment during their lifetimes and when they become waste.  It applies to a huge spectrum of products.  It encourages and sets criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment.  It makes producers responsible for financing most of these activities (producer responsibility).

The producers responsibility include:

  • Labelling requirement
  • Providing information to end-users, the channel and treatment facilities
  • Submitting sales and recovery data to the government
  • Take-back and recycling obligations
  • Control and monitoring of the whole product and waste stream
